We now bring you to you're article.

"If magical girls are said to be born from positive desires like wishes, then witches are born from negative desires like curses."

"Magical girls spread hope, where witches spread despair."

"And to make matters worse, they can't be seen by normal humans."

"Doubt and suspicion, extreme anger and hate. They bring seeds of catastrophe to this world."

(WARNING: THIS ARTICLE IS GOING TO HAVE SOME SCARY MOMENTS)

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0516

Music for the First Half of the Article

From the dark style and tragic mind of Gen Urobuchi and drawings of Ume Aoki, comes this very recent Magical Girl.

Madoka Kaname is an Ordinary Middle School Student with a working mother, a stay-at-home dad and a close circle of friends. Other than a strange dream about a black-haired girl fighting off a huge monster in a ruined city, her life is a peaceful one. Then, one day, that black-haired girl, Homura Akemi, transfers to their class.

Things begin to change when, after school, Madoka hears someone's voice calling out to her. This voice belongs to Kyubey, a small cat- or ferret-like creature. She and her best friend, Sayaka Miki, then find themselves in a bizarre dream world where they witness an upperclassman, Mami Tomoe, transform into a Magical Girl and save them from otherworldly monsters. Kyubey then asks Madoka and Sayaka to become magical girls, too. The process is very simple - Kyubey will grant them a wish — any wish, no matter how small or big — and in exchange, they will sign a contract with him, which will allow them to become magical girls...

Music for the Second Half of the Article

But Alas things simply are not as they seem to be........

You See This world is NOT all fun and games like your traditional Magical Girl Show.

Are you a Human? Enjoy getting drained, dismembered and eaten by a Witch. Are you a Witch? Enjoy being warped into a horrifying Cosmic Abomination and getting killed by a Magical Girl. Are you a Magical Girl? Enjoy being cut off from all your friends and spending the rest of your life at a poor job where the smallest misstep can spell a swift death. And it doesn't even stop there — by accepting the contract with Kyubey to become a magical girl, you basically become a empty shell, and if you don't die horribly at some point, you eventually turn into a Witch. And the universe itself? Is undergoing entropy, such that it will eventually die if not fed a steady diet of emotional energy harvested from the despair of said Magical Girls when they inevitably fall and become Witches by the Incubators (though we still don't know whether that is even true or if Kyubey is just messing with people's heads for its own amusement). Fun for everyone!

Did I forget Kyubey never lies, though he's often used half-truths. So it's implied that the universe-saving thing is at least partially true. Though it's not like humans will be around to enjoy it when his plan is through.

This is basically the story of Dr. Faust with Magical Girls

For those who don't know Dr. Faust is the prototypical story about a guy being tricked into making a Deal with the Devil, who appears to him as a cute animal. Turns out that the Magical Girl contract involves Kyubey removing the girl's soul and moving it into a soul gem.

Magical Girls

Music for the Third Half of the Article

The Magical Girls are adolescent girl gifted with powers granted by making a contract with Kyubey. The terms of the contract are that Kyubey will grant the girl one wish, and in exchange, she will use magic to fight against witches. The powers she receives are often related to her wish. For example, a wish to cure someone will grant enhanced regenerative abilities. Magical Girls carry soul gems A Soul Gem is an egg-shaped gem that holds a magical girl's power. It is created when a contract is made with an Incubator. Its size and brightness are relative to the amount of magical power residing in the girl. The gem is essential for hunting and fighting witches: it glows whenever a witch or one of its familiars is nearby, and it is also used to transform for battle. When not in gem form, it exists as a ring on the owner's finger. A Soul Gem is so named because it serves as a container for the soul, so that the body will be able to survive otherwise fatal wounds. Accordingly, if the Soul Gem is destroyed, the owner will die. If the body is moved too far away from the gem, it will lose its pulse and become lifeless. Whenever a magical girl uses her powers, her gem becomes darker, up to the point where her powers are exhausted. Before this happens, the gem must be purified by transferring the darkness into Grief Seeds. Offensive powers typically involve making copies of a personal weapon, such as arrows, muskets or bazookas. Anyone with a soul is capable of making a contract (This includes Alien Lifeforms or Machines).

Personally I Think they're adorable

• Madoka Kaname

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0517

Madoka Kaname, the protagonist and title character, is a gentle and friendly 14 year old girl. Living an ordinary life, Madoka has a loving family and is surrounded by good friends. One day she had a dream of a mysterious girl who was fighting an ominous creature. The next day, Akemi Homura, the girl from her dream, came to her class as a transfer student.

Madoka first appears to a naive, gentle girl from a kind family. Though sometimes shy, she makes friends without much difficulty and treats others gently and with respect.

She has low self-confidence, and she believes she does not have much to offer the world unless she is helping people, which makes becoming a magical girl appealing to her. She has been known to become flustered easily, and in certain circumstances, she can be easily manipulated by others playing on her insecurity and desire to help. As a magical girl, she is more obviously confident in herself than before her wish.

After Mami's death, Madoka changed her mind about becoming a magical girl.

Her wish to Kyubey is to Release Magical Girls in to the past and future from their cursed fate of becoming witches in the penultimate timeline before the New World.

She Ascends and becomes the deity of the New World after that event.

• Homura Akemi

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0518

A new transfer student in Madoka's class and a highly stoic magical girl with unknown motives. All in all a Anti Hero Type 3 because for whatever reason, she will go to any length to prevent Madoka from striking a contract with Kyubey. She wields conventional weaponry such as firearms and explosives and carries a buckler. Her powers allow her to Flash Step. She is, in reality, a time traveler; the terms of her contract give her the power to turn back time so she can attempt to save Madoka from becoming a magical girl herself, and eventually, a witch. Using her buckler, she can also briefly pause time, allowing her to effectively Flash Step and set up powerful combination attacks. Her other weapons are completely unrelated to her wish: they are stolen and completely non-magical.

In Madoka's new, witch-free world, she works with Kyubey to fight the new manifestations of despair and wields a black bow similar to Madoka's.

• Sayaka Miki

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0519

Madoka's best friend. She has an unwavering sense of justice. She forms a contract with Kyubey to heal the wrist of her childhood friend Kyosuke, allowing him to play the violin again. As a side effect of her wish, she is afforded prodigious healing abilities and a musical motif. She wields cutlasses, of which she can conjure infinite amounts. Her affections for Kyosuke go unacknowledged and she falls into despair, becoming the witch Oktavia von Seckendorff. She is later killed by Kyoko.

• Mami Tomoe

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0523

A nurturing upperclassman at Madoka's school and a veteran magical girl. She wields an infinite number of magical flintlock rifles along with various ribbon-based binding spells. Her parents died in a car accident, and she lives alone. She Acts as Madoka and Sayaka's surrogate older sibling or mother.

She is eaten by the witch Charlotte in Episode 3, making her the first casualty of the penultimate timeline.

What a sad way to go.

• Kyoko Sakura

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0514

A type 5 Anti Hero. A veteran and morally ambiguous magical girl. Her view of a magical girl's duties are ruthlessly utilitarian; for example, on her first encounter with Sayaka, she suggests allowing a familiar to feed on humans and mature into a witch so as to ultimately gain a Grief Seed from slaying it. She wields a halberd whose shaft can split into chained-together segments, giving her weapon dangerous flexibility and reach. Her wish was to make people listen to her father's unorthodox preaching. This arguably mind-controlling wish afforded her illusory powers, but she lost them due to the trauma of her father loosing his mind and her family deaths.

Despite her initial antagonistic behavior toward Sayaka, Kyoko sees a bit of herself in her and begins to warm up and reach out to her, but not in time to save her from becoming a witch. Kyoko eventually takes out Sayaka in a suicide attack so the latter wouldn't have to die alone.

Witches

Music for the Fourth Half of the Article

Witches are non-human entities generally perceived as evil. They inhabit hidden private worlds and are therefore not normally visible. If left alone, they affect humans by giving them marks known as "Witch's Kisses", which cause accidents, disease, or in sevear Cases Death. Witches can spawn lesser versions of themselves called familiars who act as guards. Witches' worlds are called barriers. Each contains a unique labyrinth, manifesting the witch's subconscious. Witches are a product either of familiars or of magical girls that have failed to purify their Soul Gems, turning these gems into Grief Seeds in the process. When a witch is defeated, the Grief Seed is left behind and can be used to cleanse and restore magical power to a Soul Gem. Kyubey is shown to consume Grief Seeds that have been used in this way.

Personally I Don't like the witches some of them scare me in fact.

• Gertrud

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0520

The rose garden witch with a distrustful nature. She holds roses dearer than anything else. She expends all of her power for the sake of beautiful roses. Despite stealing the life-force of humans who wander into her barrier to give to her roses, she loathes the thought of them trampling the inside of her barrier.

• Charlotte

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0521
Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 053

The dessert witch, with a tenacious nature. She desires everything. She will never give up. Though she is capable of creating infinite amounts of any dessert she desires, she is unable to make the cheese that she loves most. One could easily catch her off-guard with a piece of cheese.

• Elly

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0522

The box witch with a covetous nature. She is a staunchly reclusive witch. Anything she covets she locks away within glass. The thoughts of her prisoners are laid bare, but one can strike her without thought without problems.

• Elsa Maria

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0524

The witch of shadow with a self-righteous nature. She continually prays for all of creation and drags all life equally into her shadow without breaking her posture. One hoping to defeat her must know the blackest anguish.

• Oktavia von Seckendorff

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0525

The witch form of Sayaka Miki, The mermaid witch; it is in her nature to fall in love. Looking for the feeling that moved her so long ago, she moves with the entire concert hall. Her fortune only turns under the weight of memories and no longer moves toward the future. Nothing will reach her any longer. She will come to know nothing more. She simply allows no one to disturb her minions' playing.

• Izabel

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0526

The artist witch. Her nature is vanity. Without a slightest doubt, she believes her existence is blessed. Wanting someone to see her work, she often interfere with human world. However within her barrier only exist works that you have probably seen somewhere before. To defeat this witch, just bring a well-known critic with you.

• Patricia

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0527

The class representative witch. Her nature is to remain an onlooker. Using the spiderlike threads which she vomits forth, she created a school for herself alone within the sky of her barrier and endlessly acts out an ordinary daily student life there. If you ring the going-home bell, this witch will likely return to her house somewhere......

• Roberta

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0528

The birdcage witch. Her nature is rage. She continuously stamps her feet inside her cage, directing her rage at those who do not respond to her. This witch is extremely fond of alcohol, and her minions are also easy to burn.

• Walpurgis Night

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0529

The Apperent Big Bad of the Series. A witch that has grown from the combination of countless other witches. The stage-constructing witch (alias: Walpurgis Night / real name: unknown); her nature is helplessness. She symbolizes the fool who continuously spins in circles. The witch's mysteries have been handed down through the course of history; her appellation is "Walpurgis Night." She will continue to rotate aimlessly throughout the world until she completely changes the whole of this age into a drama. When the doll's usual upside-down position reaches the top part of the witch, she completely roils the civilization on the ground in a flash through her gale-like flight.

• Kriemhild Gretchen

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0531
Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0533
Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 0530

The witch form of Madoka Kaname, Witch of salvation. Her nature is mercy. She absorbs any life on the planet into her newly created heaven--her barrier. The only way to defeat this witch is to make the world free of misfortune. If there's no grief in this world, she will believe this world is already a heaven. It appears at the end of the universe, born from all the grief Madoka had shouldered from the magical girls she had saved, due to her supremely hopeful wish. She inhabits a comet-sized grief seed and, unlike the second and fourth timelines' versions of Kriemhild, has a fully-shown face (although the left half is either blank or covered in shadow); her head is sun disc-shaped, her open mouth resembles the moon, and her right eye resembles the earth. She is slain by the "goddess" form of Madoka before she can consume the earth.

AND NOW TO INTRODUCE THE REAL MAIN VILLAIN BEHIND ALL THESE EVENTS

Music for the Fith Half of the Article (WARNING THIS SONG MIGHT SCARE YOUNGER VIEWERS)

Kyubey aka the Incubator

Could You Explain Puella Magi Madoka Magica? 054

The True Villain of the Story and a Complete Monster. He/She/It is a small, cute creature that communicates through telepathy. His duty is to form contracts with girls where they will become magical girls and fight witches in exchange for any one wish. He is intent on contracting Madoka due to her immense potential.

He is an "Incubator" and a member of an alien race that seeks to use the thermodynamics-violating energy produced by the magical girl/witch cycle to counteract entropy and stave off the heat death of the universe. The greater the wish and the more important the contractee, the better the payoff, and several powerful historical women were, in reality, magical girls. He is also a Hive Mind of sorts and can easily regenerate upon death.

He is memorable enough to earn himself an emoticon /人◕‿‿◕人\

In case you want to know how bad Kyubey is well he manipulates Sayaka's soul gem so that she feels excruciating physical pain, just to drive home the truth about how becoming a magical girl basically turns you into a walking corpse by default. he only has pure emotionless sadism that he seems to represent. Feeding on the pain and angst of teenage girls as and using the excuse 'it fights entropy' doesn't get him a lot of favor points in my book. The cuteness is just a mask to show how ugly he is on the inside.

He Will Say things like, "Want to become a magical girl and have your own miracle? Great! Make a contract with me. Oh, and, uh, it'll only cost you your soul and end with you you becoming the very thing you fight through sheer, eventual despair. Toodles!"

His entire goal is to have the girls fall into despair so they can become witches. He decided way of reinforcing leading Sayaka to thinking "I done screwed up!" and witchifying her.

we see him slowly morph from helpful (if you are lucky enough to get your questions right) Mentor Mascot to uncaring Manipulative Villian. Worse, he stays polite and helpful (again, if you are lucky enough to get your questions right) the entire time.

To accomplish this, he cleverly schemes and plans to ensure that as many Magical Girls as possible die in Mitakihara Town, so that when Walpurgis Night arrived, the girl would be forced to either contract with him or allow her city to get completely destroyed.

This little thing is Manipulative he's very good at asking the girls to make a contract with him at the exact moment when they'd have the most difficulty refusing. And he will abusively call you, even if you do refuse his offer.

Not to mention that the whole concept of Kyubey the stuff nightmares are made of. Appearing in a form that is psychologically appealing to young girls for the 'cutesy' element and playing on the natural inferiority the girls possess into manipulating them into making a contract that ultimately results in their death for the good of the universe. There's a particular reason he doesn't seem to chose current world victims that are old enough to understand the concept of trust... *shudder*

I HATE THAT LITTLE THING!!!
