History of Cosmic Abominations? Dragon11

Music for the Article

Nobody Knows the origins of these destructive creatures there are several accounts:

1. They traveled from world to world when stars were right, but now sleep, waiting until the stars are right once more so they may rule again (incidentally, when they wake up, they plunge the world into madness and terror). They some exist outside our universe and seem to be embodiments of various cosmic principles. They seem to be responsible for the creation of our universe.

2. The beings that became known as the Cosmic Abominations did not originate from this Universe, but the one before it. They were originally a powerful race of beings who were the equivalent of the Time Lords in their native space. However, when their Universe ended, the Cosmic Abominations shunted themselves into a parallel dimension which collapsed seconds later into the new Universe. This allowed them to pass into the new Universe which had different laws of physics, and they discovered that they had gained god-like powers which allowed them to manipulate the new Universe in which they now existed.

3. Some say were not from a previous universe, but from an early period in this universe, before a great hero imposed reason and order upon it.

4. In the beginning of time, God created an order of spirits. Of these, many of the greater spirits were sent to newborn Earth to oversee it as Watchers. One of these spirits, Atum, created the Cosmic Abominations out of fire and mud. The other spirits proceeded to set spells and wards about the Dragon, and even infused it with fire once again, but still the being remained lifeless. However, when night-time came, the Cosmic Abominations awoke and was instilled with purpose and function, giving birth to the Ogdru Hem who become Earth's first lifeforms.

The watchful spirits, upon seeing the creation of these abominations, went to war with them. First Lifeforms were eventually all disposed of, with many of them barely clinging to existence in some fashion, with the Cosmic Abominations sealed by their creator in a prison of crystal and placed in the heart of the abyss. The other Watchers, however, no longer trusted the one spirit, and so they struck him down and destroyed all his remnants, save for one: his right hand. After that, God looked down in fury on what had happened, and exacted his retribution on the Watchers for botching their task: some were cast down into the pit, while others were stranded on the Earth to breed monsters.

Of the original spirits, many of the lesser ones were now given substance by God and took up residence on Earth as the first men, the Golden People, the pre-humans. They dwelled in the land of Hyperborea, and they took the right hand of that one spirit as their holy object, and at the request of Thoth, their greatest king, attached the hand to a great statue. The statue stood for ten thousand years, until finally Hyperborea became corrupted. Thoth began to worship Heca-Emem-Ra, the Black Goddess, and as a result the statue left its place in Thoth's garden and destroyed the city, before finally hurling itself over a cliff. The only remnant of the statue was the original right hand. As for Hyperborea, it was crushed by the Ice Age, which triggered the second race of men (humanity) to come forward.

What's known is that ancient carvings dating at least fifteen million years ago show that the Cosmic Abominations ruled everywhere before they died out and went into hibernation after fleeing from the predators with a touch of decay. They managed to escape from the great cosmic disaster in order to flee into the Time Vortex where they became discorporate entities thus leaving their bodies behind on Earth.

Their minds have sought to return to their bodies when the stars were correctly aligned as the tidal forces of the stellar masses in conjunction can bring about a sufficient tear in the space-time continuum which can bring about a pathway through which they can reunite with their bodies. However, as the stars were constantly expanding and contracting, they never returned to the same configuration as the time when the Cosmic Abominations went into hibernation. Thus, they required the assistance of their followers to attract the attentions of their bodies autonomic insticts and allow them to chance to compensate. As they were unable to affect the world physically, they used the influence of their powerful minds to achieve their goals.

To describe how they behave in case you're confused these are beings that live outside of time in eternity, are immortal and use the imagination of people from our universe to form realities. They can take anyone they want from any point in time and force them to do whatever they wish. They are not invincible, though; if somehow trapped in our reality, they are mortal and vulnerable.

They possess incredible age and intelligence, how easily and often the very laws of reality are twisted like playthings by them, and their inherent ability to perceive the universe in ways no other species can.

They neither male nor female, sleeping until they bring the downfall of man. They have an army of beasts that have long, clinging tongues capable of sapping the prodigious strength of the Hero, let alone a human, can take on the appearance of a normal human being, possess an ability to record personal memories/skills into their genes and pass them onto their offspring, and have the knowledge of great spells of power not heard on the Earth for millions of years. Also, the Cosmic Abominations when possesing a body are so alien that they can accidently destroy their hosts soul and cause the person to experience body horror.
